Madison is the place to be on game day! When you visit this autumn, catch a University of Wisconsin football game—both USA Today and the NCAA rate Madison as the #1 best college football town. Start with the Badger Bash tailgating party at the Union, where you’re surrounded by friendly fans, the UW Marching Band and farm-to-tailgate fare. Then it’s time to enter Camp Randall—home to our beloved Badgers. Stay until just before the fourth quarter for “Jump Around,” when everyone stands, jumps and dances to the House of Pain song—known as one of the best college game time traditions by Thrillist and NBC Sports.

One of the best times to visit Madison is when the campus comes alive with the rush of new and returning students. Many put the Memorial Union Terrace at the top of their must-see list because of its stunning lake views, live music, local food and playful atmosphere. Take a campus tour to learn why Forbes lists UW-Madison as “one of the top ten universities in the country,” and then buy some Bucky gear to commemorate your visit!

Madison balances the local sports scene with an equally impressive selection of museums, art galleries and performing arts venues. Start your day on the UW-Madison campus with a visit to the Chazen Museum of Art, home to the second-largest art collection in Wisconsin. Then, stroll down State Street to the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, highlighting inspiring collections in a fittingly inspiring atmosphere. At the end of State Street is the Capitol Square and two enriching museums: the Wisconsin Veterans Museum and the Wisconsin Historical Museum. These museums highlight Wisconsin’s history and the people that formed our community. And just off the Capitol Square is the Wisconsin Science Museum, which exemplifies Madison’s deep history in science and technology through interactive exhibits.

When you visit a Madison Farmers’ Market in fall, you’ll not only get fresh produce picked at its peak, you’ll have the opportunity to talk to farmers about our agricultural heritage. The Dane County Farmers’ Market is the largest, producer-only market in the nation, with over 160 vendors on an average Saturday. The market exemplifies what it means to be a Madisonian: We cherish our fresh, farm-to-table culture and love our downtown setting. Grab a scone, cheese bread or donut, and pick up some fresh corn, turnips and kale for later.
