Event Funding Assistance

Investment in the Spirit of Greater Madison allows us to bring high-ROI events to Madison.  These high-impact events helped us assess the potential of a dedicated sports entity. 

2008 AAU Taekwondo Championships

  • 8,375 participants and spectators attended
  • $800,000 in direct spending impact

 

2010 National Kidney Foundation U.S. Transplant Games

  • 7,500 attended the event - including 1,200 athletes
  • $2.5 million in direct spending impact

 

2010 Centurion Cycling

  • 1,200 attended the event
  • $240,000 in direct spending impact


Economic impact is based on a direct spending formula that includes visitor hotel, meals, local transportation, entertainment and other expenditures.

New Tourism-Based Economic Development

Investment in the Spirit of Greater Madison allows us to create new opportunities for tourism marketing.

Madison Area Sports Commission (MASC)

  • Spirit provided initial funding for the development and launch (Sept. 2010).
  • MASC continues to leverage sports to grow visitor volume and spending.

 

Destination Development

Investment in the Spirit of Greater Madison is critical in creating the future of the destination.

Community Air Service Support Partnership (CASSP)

  • A collaborative effort that attracted non-stop air service, a critical need to improving access to Madison.
  • Current non-stop flights include: Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, Memphis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New York, Newark and Washington, D.C.

 

Film Wisconsin

  • Attracts film and television production to generate positive economic impact.
  • Two films have been produced in the area to date: "Public Enemies" and "Baraboo."
  • Direct spending impact of these films is $500,000.
