A dynamic engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Kobie Boykins is on the front line of Mars exploration. He designed the solar arrays that powered Spirit and Opportunity, the two rovers that landed on Mars in 2004. He also designed elements of Curiosity, which landed on Mars in August 2012. In his presentation, Boykins takes the audience inside the world of 21st-century space exploration, showing how NASA scientists and engineers tackle a wide range of challenges that include an extremely harsh environment, great distance, remote technology and a largely unexplored terrain.
