A former child prodigy, the violinist Rachel Barton Pine overcame significant personal tragedy, becoming one of the most celebrated violinists in the world. An accident on the Chicago Metra in the mid-90s severed one of her legs and mangled the other. But after a two year recovery period, Pine returned to performance, playing with orchestras and symphonies around the world and with celebrated conductors such as Plácido Domingo, Charles Dutoit, and Zubin Mehta. While she regularly plays baroque, renaissance, and medieval music, Rachel Barton Pine also performs rock and heavy metal music with her band Earthen Grave. She has jammed with the likes of Slash of Guns N' Roses and other rock and metal stars. The program for this concert includes the Brahms Violin Concerto.
