  Madison, Wisconsin, can now be found on www.whatscheaper.com. This city listing boasts of Madison's ability to entertain every vacationer. According to the page, whether your interests are the great outdoors, a day of shopping, cultural outings, or a night on the town, Madison has it all. Madison "must sees" included the State Capitol Building, Frank Lloyd Wright Tours, Madison Children's Museum, UW Arboretum, Overture Center for the Arts, Monona Terrace, the University of Wisconsin and Taliesin.
  Journalist Jackie Finch had nothing but good things to say about Madison following her culinary tour trip this summer. In particular, the National Mustard Museum in Middleton received the highest of praises. Home of the world's largest collection of mustard and mustard memorabilia, Finch was impressed with the museum's collection that included mustard from all 50 states and more than 60 countries. The mustard vending machine, Poupon U, the Great Wall of Mustard, Mustardpiece Theatre and Mrs. Mustards Kitchen were also noted highlights. The story found its way all the way to Indiana, where it appeared on heraldtimesonline.com and examiner.com.
  The October issue of 435 South Magazine featured a great piece on Madison titled "Marvelous Madison." The destination article began by praising the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Monona Terrace and went on to praise all things Madison. From the accommodating service and great location of The Madison Concourse and Governor's Club to the delicious food at Clary's Popcorn, Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream, Avenue Bar, Fromagination, Daisy Café, Gail Abrosius Chocolates, Graze, Sassy Cow Creamery and Sardine, the article had nothing but compliments for the "vibrant city of 225,000 residents sparked by a rare combination of thriving business, progressive government, culture, exquisite cuisine and advanced education surrounded by pristine nature."
 

In September 2011, Madison firefighter Rob Verhelst competed in the Ford Ironman Wisconsin triathlon, running the marathon portion in full firefighting gear.

 

 

In August of 2011, Warren Hansen, the city official in charge of licensing and organizing the city's 40-plus food carts, attended the hip San Francisco Street Food Festival. It was the second time he has been invited (all expenses paid) to the festival. Warren was invited due to Madison's renowned food cart industry and overall success of street food throughout the city. Ingrid Rockwell of Ingrid's LunchBox also attended this year's Street Food Festival.

 

 

The national wildlife refuge conference was held in Madison Wisconsin during July 2011. Hundreds of professional and citizen conservationalists met in order to finalize a new vision for the country's 553 national wildlife refuges. Conferences are only held when needed and this conference was urgent due to the issue of how to manage the federal refuges at a time of global warming.

 

 

The Greater Madison Convention & Visitors Bureau was featured in a channel 3000 segment discussing upcoming events being held around Madison. The segment focused on both indoor and outdoor summer activities for adults, kids, and families.

 

 

Downtown Madison appeared on the cover of Meetings MidAmerica in their June/July issue. The "Mad City" article praised Madison's unique combination of political activism and Midwest hospitality.

 

 

A June editorial piece in the Capital Times boasted of Madison's improving hospitality industry. The article focused on how this increase in hospitality revenue provides a promising outlook for Madison's economy.

 

 

Madison tourism was featured in a Wisconsin State Journal editorial piece in May. The World Dairy Expo, Monona Terrace, and the Madison Area Sports Commission were all credited with helping to increase the amount of visitors in the area.

 

 CNU 19 Madison was the host to the 2011 CNU 19: Growing Local Convention June 1-4, 2011, at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. CNU is a non-profit organization that promotes walkable, mixed-use neighborhood development, sustainable communities, and healthier living conditions.
 Meetings Madison was featured in a Meetings MidAmerica article "Wisconsin Green at Heart" in their November/December issue for its steadfast community-wide commitment to a green lifestyle.

Monona Terrace continues to be nationally recognized for its outstanding venue.  It received a 2009 Prime Site Award by Facilities & Destinations magazine for the 8th straight year, was selected for a Readers' Choice Award at the Platnium level for Best Conference Center in Wisconsin by Corporate Report Wisconsin, was voted "Top Pick" wedding venue by The Knot magazine, it was a finalist as Best Reception Venue for Wisconsin Bride Magazine and received a recertification with a score of 92 points from Travel Green Wisconsin. 

  • Voted Best Convention Center in Wisconsin by readers of Wisconsin Meetings Magazine.

 

 

  • And it was designated as a Green Power Partner by the Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership, based on significant green power purchasing.

Best Life conducted a study to determine the 100 best places to raise a family, and Madison came in at number 8 on the list. Determining factors included access to health care, education spending, availability of activities, and things for kids to do. Madison was noted as having "a high number of pediatricians per capita."

Madison was featured NBC's Today Show, where real estate expert Barbara Corcoran revealed her list of the nation's friendliest cities. Madison's welcoming qualities include pedestrian and bike friendliness, and the presence of parks and public spaces.
