No need to get out your passport in order to experience internationally-inspired cuisine! Madison's eclectic blend of restaurants offers endless dining opportunities.
First stop: Ireland. Try Brocach on the Capitol Square for a relaxed, neighborhood tavern feel and a menu inspired by the travels of its owners. Or, head to Middleton where you'll find traditional Irish pub fare and a perfect pint at Claddagh Irish Pub.
If you're interested in Italian, Madison has many options: Cento is Madison's newest, premiere Italian restaurant that combines Old World Italian traditions with modern techniques--and has already earned accolades from Conde Nast Traveler as one of the "15 Best New Restaurants in the Midwest." Near UW-Madison is Lombardino's Italian Restaurant and Bar, a neighborhood restaurant with a menu that changes seasonally with the availability of fresh produce. On Madison's far west side is Biaggi's, offering a more casual atmosphere and private dining areas for larger groups and Paisan's atmosphere is amazing. Overlooking Lake Monona, Paisan's has been a Madison classic since 1950 (try the Garibaldi Sandwich and Porta Salad).
Another don't-miss mix can be found at the comfortable and casual Alpine Restaurant, which serves Swiss and American flavors, and and at the New Glarus Hotel Restaurant, an historic landmark known for its Swiss cuisine and entertainment. Monroe Street's Brasserie V brings together Belgian and French flavors (and more than 200 world-class beers!). For a twist on French-inspired menu items, try the traditional cajun and creole flavors that are favored at The Bayou. Or, find Liliana's Restaurant in Fitchburg, where New Orleans food is served in elegant, French Quarter decor.
In the mood for Mexican? Try the Eldorado Grill for Tex-Mex and Tex Tubb's Taco Palace, an Austin-style taqueria serving more than 30 varieties of tacos. A trip to Essen Haus German Restaurant just may make you feel as though you've stepped back in time into a German Beer Hall, complete with authentic food and live music. Dobhan Kitchen serves up fusion cuisine from Nepal and India, with a touch of Mediterranean in its meals.
End your world tour with a sampling of Asia at Restaurant Muramoto, which offers a small-plate, Izakaya-inspired menu or Lao Laan-Xang, Madison's first authentic Laotion restaurant. Sa-Bai Thong, located on Madison's west side, serves authentic Thai cuisine and the Imperial Garden in Middleton, voted "Best of Madison" for more than 30 years, has an extensive Chinese menu.
