OVERVIEW

What if this school year could support your child and family’s well-being? What if, in the midst of this pandemic as the veils of normalcy wear thin, we could create a new way to learn and be together?

5Elements is an Outdoor SEL Program. We spend the majority of our time outside, with the exception of extreme weather conditions, during which time we have indoor space at the Garver Feed Mill.

5Elements is offering in-person programs that intentionally bolster and create resilience by supporting social development for our community of children, ages 5-17. We will do this by establishing relationships and nurturing their sense of wonder and possibility. We will focus on social & emotional development using outdoor learning, wellness, nature, and creative expression. Think of all that could go right!

Elementary - Mornings (8:30-11:30am)

For children ages 5-10, we will begin on the Garver Patio for circle time. Art-making and mindful movement will be held in the Garver outdoor spaces and surrounding open spaces, including the bike path, Olbrich Gardens, and nearby parks. We will use a range of media, incorporating nature and intentional themes. Our day will include healthy snacks and mindful practices to keep us centered and present.

Tweens/Teens - Afternoons (12:00-3:00pm and 3:00-6:00pm)

Designed for ages 11-17, we offer tweens and teens a connection-based curriculum that is centered around the five competencies of emotional intelligence. Yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices combined with team-building and service will be the avenues to build skills related to each competency.

Personal development components:

  • Yoga and meditation practices and coaching;

  • Finding purpose, passion, and expression in our individual and collective potential;

Service-oriented components:

  • Connecting to/volunteering for a local organization;

  • Supporting each other as teammates & mentoring;

  • Growing in our understanding of action/activism and impact.

Schedule

Our sessions are designed for greater immersion than standard programs, allowing for deeper connection, community, and development of practice for our students. Our current capacity is 15 students per cohort, but if you don’t make it into this one, we are starting a wait list for a possible expansion of capacity.
