Bumble Bee Monitoring at Schumacher

Would you like to learn about bumble bees and participate in a community science effort? Come along with Dane County Parks/Bumble Bee Brigade volunteer Maggie Honig to identify and tally bumble bee species in support of pollinator conservation efforts in Dane County Parks and throughout Wisconsin. Maggie will brief our group on some of the species of bumble bees found in Dane County Parks, and she will teach us the methods for the survey. After our briefing, we will go out into habitat, searching for bumble bees in the area and photographing them (note that our photos are the data for the survey; no bees will be caught or handled). We will be walking on uneven ground and we will likely be off-trail for most or all of the survey.
