Stoughton Coffee Break Festival
Stoughton, WI proudly celebrates its claim as the birthplace of the American coffee break with the annual Coffee Break Festival, held the third Saturday in August. The tradition dates back to the 1880s on Coffee Street, where Norwegian immigrants—making up 80% of the population (and 100% on Coffee Street)—paused their day to enjoy a hot cup of coffee between chores and meals. With local industries like the T.G. Mandt Wagon Co. booming and women working seasonally at nearby tobacco warehouses, the daily pause for coffee quickly became a community staple. Today, that spirit lives on at Racetrack Park with the Coffee Brew-Off, Cup O’ Joe All-Wheels Show, arts and crafts, food and beer, Women’s Strength Competition, and more!
