OVERVIEW
Cold Wax Painting is a popular artistic medium all over the world.
In this two day long workshop, students will explore the basic principles of Cold Wax Painting through instructor-led demonstrations,
one-on-one guidance, and exploration of individual pieces. The techniques are fun, creative, and only limited by one's imagination. The class will explore the process of building layers using printmaking methods, mark making, and adding textures. What is added and hidden under layers will be uncovered by reduction methods including scraping, scratching, gouging, and the use of solvents. There are no mistakes in this class, only results that are yet discovered. Students will complete the class with a basic knowledge of the medium, at least one finished painting, and some works in progress.
A variety of tools, substrates, and materials will be used along with the instructor's favorite methods to achieve fantastic results. Students will play with materials such as oils, powder pigments, wax crayon, oil pastels. pigment sticks, metallic leaf, and much more. Tools will include brayers, palette knives, brushes, tissue paper, wax paper, skewers, silicone scrapers or shapers, hand brooms, clay shaping tools, and other favorites.
ALL and Teaching Artist Rick Ross will provide many of the tools and materials. Students will also be asked to make purchases from a Workshop Supply List that will total around $100. The tools that students purchase will be able to be reused for future projects. Email ceara@artlitlab.org with questions.
