Do you have Anthropologie taste on a Target budget? Learn how to transform jeans you already own to create trendy new styles – just in time for warmer temps and festival season! In this workshop, fashion industry vets (and current Lands’ End designers) Mary Johnston and Christine Mayes will share current denim trends, along with plenty of inspiration photos to get your creative juices flowing. You’ll then learn tips and techniques for customizing your denim jeans/shorts to create on-trend styles. Techniques covered in the workshop will include: DIY hem treatments, distressing, hand painting, and bleaching. Nervous to try a technique on your own piece? Don’t worry – Lands End will be providing denim swatches that will be perfect to practice on!

BYO denim item(s), and we’ll provide the rest!

*Note: painted and bleached jeans may need to stay at Revel to dry and will be available for pick up during business hours.

About the Instructors:

Mary Johnston has built a career in the fashion industry, working as a buyer and digital experience guru for two leading department store brands in the Midwest. A lifetime DIY-er, Mary is adept at discovering new trends and finding ways to re-create them on a normal gal’s budget. Follow along with her adventures as a fashion lover, runner, dog mom, and home renovator on Instagram at @mkvandy and @2bigdoggos.

Christine Mayes is the Women’s + Kid’s Design Director for Lands’ End. Throughout her career as a designer, Christine has found herself in the niche of creating denim and washed product. Working for companies such as Thom Browne, Ralph Lauren and Lands’ End have served as benchmarks that have helped Christine craft an eye ranging from highly conceptual to casual denim and wash applications. Having worked in a handful of denim factories and laundries overseas on development trips, Christine has seen firsthand what it takes to execute both the wet and dry processes that denim endures giving it the perfect lived-in look. She is excited to share this knowledge through a DIY lens. Christine recently moved here from Brooklyn, NY, with her husband and young daughter.
