OVERVIEW

Activities to learn more about a sustainable future through products from forests include wood identification and anatomy, nanocellulose, termites, and hands-on participation like woodworking projects, strength endurance, and tours of the Wood Anatomy Lab, the Metal and Woodworking shops, and our Research Labs.

• What is wood? – we’ll explore wood properties, evolution, and identification
• National Forest Service Library – make your own book and put your stamp on it!
• Kids Passport – journey through the booths and gain a prize for your travels
• Scavenger Hunt – learn as you hunt for clues to find the treasures!
• Termites eat wood? – find out how they find the wood and why they eat it
• Testing the strength of wood – are you able to break wood in one blow?
• Nanocellulose is tiny but mighty – explore how this small material is as strong as steel
• Blowing bubbles through wood – learn about red oak wood
• Lab highlight tours - take a behind the scene tour of the Lab
Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl will be on hand for some bear hugs and hoots of fun!
