Introduction to Screenprinting with Lesley Numbers

111. S. Livingston St. Suite 100
Madison, WI 53703
OVERVIEW

Screen printing is an accessible way to translate an image on to multiple surfaces: cards, posters, t-shirts and more. In this four-week introductory class, we will explore the fundamentals of screen printing, including stenciling methods using hand drawn and digital imagery with photo emulsion, printing techniques and how to layer a design. Students will have the opportunity to print on paper and fabric* and create one and two color prints. We will also look at and discuss past and present artists and designers who incorporate screen printing into their practices, as well as the political and commercial histories of the medium. Get ready to experiment, get a little messy and enjoy the process!

*Blank fabric will be available to print on. Participants may bring their own pre-washed, cotton t-shirts or other items to print on if desired.
