Revisit the astounding repertoire of Leonard Bernstein, as John DeMain and the Madison Symphony Orchestra celebrate the centennial birth of the great American composer. The first half, comprised of Bernstein’s original works, features DeMain and the MSO, with works such as the Overture to ‘Candide’, Three Dance Episodes from ‘On the Town’, and a riveting impression with pianist Christopher Taylor, who joins in the extraordinarily meticulous, jazz-inflected Symphony No. 2, Age of Anxiety. To end the program, focal redirection to Bernstein’s conductorial career celebrates Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 – Bernstein’s final performance – and carries Leonard Bernstein’s memory into immortality, lauding him as one of the finest composers and musicians in contemporary American history. Student rush tickets are available for $15 - $20 at the Overture Center Box Office on the day of the concert.
