Queer Youth Art Club

111. S. Livingston St. Suite 100
Madison, WI 53703
OVERVIEW

Teens and pre-teens who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ and are looking for community can find it in this small, inclusive, artmaking group. Allies looking to support friends and meet others with common interests are also warmly welcomed. In this 8 session-long Art Club, students will have the opportunity to make art with queer-identified artist Bernie Witzack of bernie & zuzu

Students will explore the concepts of making identity-based art, joy-based art, activist art, and art for the sake of art. Participants will harness their art style along with Bernie's to create art that makes them feel good. Students need not be experienced artists. Much of the projects that Bernie will introduce are non-representational and will focuses on expression through color and joy-based creation. Club members should be ready to have fun, build community, and create without strict requirements.

This club is an excellent opportunity for middle school students who have a passion for art and/or queer identities. Students can feel extra support and acceptance that some may lack in traditional learning settings by meeting in a safe and accepting space with other queer-identifying kids and affirming allies.

This class is largely supported by Outreach grant-funding and is therefore able to be offered with a nominal registration fee.
