OVERVIEW
In this Recycled Studio class, which meets for 5 consecutive Fridays, we will explore different ways that artists can use recycled materials to supplement or replace disposable and new products.
In the last few years, there has been a rise in the use of recyclables in artmaking. Items like plastic bottles, old toys and trinkets, and even thrifted paints and inks, are common materials for many artists. Students will learn about the artists that are leading this movement and about those that have been creating with recycled materials for generations.
During this class, students will have access to a variety of secondhand goods that were donated to ALL. Students are invited to bring in reusable materials from home, as well, if they have them available. The class will also focus on real-life problems of collection and quantity so that students can observe how frequently people use disposable materials in their everyday lives and the negative impact this has on our world.
This class will emphasize creativity, problem-solving and mixed-media art approaches.
