Rhumba 4 Rainbow is Madison’s annual premier salsa event and fundraiser to prevent child abuse and domestic violence. Live music, performances by professional dancers, dance contests, great food, raffles and a fantastic silent auction are all featured at this event. Extra Mile Awards are presented to those in our community who have gone above and beyond in advocating for young children and families who are experiencing trauma. In recent years, these awards have been presented to recipients by noteworthy individuals such as County Executive Joe Parisi, Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne, Mayor Paul Soglin, and Dr. Barbara Knox of the UW Children’s Hospital.
The first Rhumba (2004) was held at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. About 180 attendees were on hand for Madison’s 1st annual salsa dance contest. Prizes included trophies, hotel stays and gift certificates donated by local businesses. The event has grown greatly over the past 14 years with a record number of around 750 guests at 2016’s Rhumba 4 Rainbow! Many local organizations and businesses have graciously donated their time, resources or products to help make our event a lively and entertaining evening for every guest. The large silent auction, Latin dance floorshow, celebrity dance challenge, and live band all provide guests with plenty of fun throughout the night while raising money for a great cause. Past Rhumbas have been very successful, but with the continued increase in demand for our services, we hope that this year will be even bigger and better.
