Sicily: The Island Reimagined

6227 McKee Road
Fitchburg, WI 53719
OVERVIEW

For generations, Sicily was known for wines of abundance more than distinction, essential but rarely celebrated. But over the past few decades a new narrative has begun to unfold. Across Etna’s black slopes and the limestone plains of Marsala, Sicily’s winemakers have rediscovered altitude, restraint, and the beauty of their own native grapes.

This seminar unfolds in three acts. Each flight shows a different side of the same island.

Flight 1: Roots and native grapes. We start with the varieties that anchor Sicily’s identity today, grown and bottled with a clear sense of place.

Flight 2: Elevation, freshness, finesse. Sicily’s most compelling wines often come from higher ground, where cooler nights preserve lift and definition. This flight looks at how altitude reshapes a Mediterranean profile, from lava terraces to limestone ridges.

Flight 3: Tradition meets modern Sicily. The island has always absorbed outside influence. This flight explores producers combining local and international grapes, modern technique and long-standing practices to create wines that feel distinctly Sicilian, with a broader, more contemporary frame.

Sicily’s story now is about refinement and focus: better farming, smarter picking decisions and a renewed commitment to the grapes that naturally grow here. Taste Sicily today and you’ll discover how far the island has come!
