Moraine Kettles and Prairie Moraine – Ice Age Trail Wildflowers hike. 

Hike the Ice Age Trail through two Town of Verona Natural Area properties and experience Kettle ponds, prairies and remnants of the last Ice Age. The viewpoint from the top of Prairie Moraine is spectacular! This is an easy to moderate hike with some elevation change. Kids are welcome with adult supervision. We’ll work a car shuttle to avoid having to make a return trip.

Meet at the Moraine Kettles Ice Age Trail Parking lot on County M, just south of the City of Verona.

Sugar River Water Trail and Davidson Unit – Wednesday June 12th, rain date June 19th. Limited to 17 people

Want to visit the Sugar River and a historic house and Indian Mound? Join this free tour of the River and Davidson house property. Canoes, paddles and PFD’s will be provided, (You can bring your own paddle or PFD). The tour will start at the Valley Road access point to the Sugar River and exit at the Davidson house. People will be asked to arrive at 6 PM.

Scheidegger Forest – Kids hike to look at Woodland wildflowers – Saturday June 22nd 9-11 am.

This hike is especially for families with kids! We’ll walk the loop trail through the Forest and observe all the different flowers and trees that are in the woods. There should be many signs of animals and lots of birds singing too.

Meet at the main parking lot on Range Trail.

Madison School Forest – Loop hike – Woodland wildflowers – Sunday June 30, 10 -12 noon

The Madison School Forest has been an attraction in the Town of Verona for more than 20 years. It includes the Olson Oak Woods State Natural Area and has old growth Oak trees with a rich understory of plants and many birds. Kids are especially welcome on this easy to moderate hike.

Meet at the main parking lot on Fritz Road.

Badger Prairie Park Tour – Saturday July 6th 9-11 am.

Badger Prairie County Park is one of Dane County’s largest park and hosts a huge, mature prairie restoration with lots of hiking trails.There are spectacular views from the higher spots in the park. IIn July the prairie will be at it's peak with many species blooming and many pollinators working the flowers! This is an easy hike along wide flat trail.

Meet at the main (large) Reddan Soccer Park parking lot on the north side of Cross Country Road.

Military Ridge State Trail – Bike Trip fromt the CTH PB park and ride to Riley Tavern and back (7.5 miles each way). Includes a stop at Sugar River Savanna – Saturday July 27 9am-noon.

This trip gets you to TWO Town Natural Areas! The Military Ridge Trail is a prime example of a “Rails-to-trails” conversion and provides an easy pleasant bike trip. We’ll ride out to the west and stop at the beautifully restored Sugar River Savanna with hundreds of different native species and take a short walking tour. Then we’ll get back on the bikes and complete the trip to Riley Tavern where we’ll stop for refreshments before returning to the starting point.

Meet at the Park and Ride on Old County PB. Bring your own bike and helmet. Kids are welcome but should be able to keep up on a 15-mile bike ride.
