Capital Springs Recreation Area

3102 Lake Farm Road
Madison, WI 53711
OVERVIEW

The nearly 2,500 acre Capital Springs Recreation Area is cooperatively operated and managed by Dane County Parks and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources with additional support from the Friends of Capital Springs Recreation Area. Recreation opportunities include wildlife viewing, cross country skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, canoeing, kayaking, hunting, fishing and camping. The Capital Springs Recreation Area boundary features many parks, trails and natural resource points of interest. The 30-acre off leash dog exercise area features an accessible parking area, nearly a mile of hard surface walking trails through restored prairie and a 3-acre small dog area. The 18-hole disc golf course was designed by local experts and traverses through open prairies and a glacial drumlin that is currently being restored to oak savanna. The course can also be accessed via the Capital City State Trail, with bicycle parking available at a trailhead that includes interpretive signage for a Native American mound group located nearby.
