7 BREWERIES WITH GREAT OUTDOOR SPACES
Madison’s craft breweries are as cool as they come, so it’s no surprise that their outdoor spaces pack the personality, too. From lush countryside gardens, to urban patios tucked into small spaces – here’s where to sip this summer.
Make Ale Asylum’s sprawling patio your first stop after landing – it’s located one mile from the airport. This north side spot has plenty of patio tables and umbrellas to provide shade. Plus, there’s a second level patio that provides a fun point of view.
Summer Sip: Unshadowed, German Hefeweizen
Open April through October, Capital’s Bier Garten is known affectionately as Middleton’s Backyard. With long rows of picnic tables and an outdoor bar, it can accommodate up to 1,200 people. Catch live music on the outdoor stage multiple times a week.
Summer Sip: Lake House, Golden Lager
Tucked behind the downtown Dane lies Madison’s secret beer garden. Covered in green ivy, the charming brick courtyard sets the mood for a romantic night. Heading off the isthmus? Locations in Fitchburg and Hilldale also sport outdoor spaces, with giant chairs that are a great photo opp.
Summer Sip: Summer Stache, Session IPA
With charming string lights and a cozy fire pit, Lone Girl’s rooftop offers an outdoor oasis in the heart of downtown Waunakee. A smaller patio is also tucked alongside the building and is great for a quick meal.
Summer Sip: Summer Lovin’, Mango-infused Pale Ale
The hillside, multi-level courtyard provides serene countryside views, which is the perfect backdrop to enjoy these only-in-Wisconsin brews.
Summer Sip: Totally Naked, Wisconsin Lager
With the 2019 addition of a beer garden, Vintage has two outdoor spaces overlooking the beautiful Wisconsin River. Relax in the dog-friendly beer garden, or sit down for a meal in the wrap-around upper patio.
Summer Sip: Whippoorwill Wit, Belgian-style Witbier
Pups are welcome most days at WBC’s Backyard. The large green space has plenty of room for picnicking and yard games, and hosts live music on the weekends. Our favorite seat? The Wisconsin-shaped Adirondack chairs!
