OVERVIEW
Contemporary Art and Printmaking
6-week course | Weekly 2-hour sessionsTuesdays, February 3–March 10, 2026, 5:30 pm–7:30 pm | $120 | 12 person capacity limit
Explore the dynamic relationship between contemporary art and printmaking in this six-week course led by Dr. Katie Geha, Director of Tandem Press. Each week, participants will meet for 2 hours to dive into key concepts, artists, and practices shaping the field today.
Using Jennifer L. Roberts’ Contact: Art and the Pull of Print as our primary text, we’ll read (or listen to) one chapter per week to guide discussions and deepen our understanding of contemporary art and printmaking. Some questions we will address include: What defines contemporary art? How does the rich history of printmaking continue to inform and expand today’s artistic practices? And who are the artists at the forefront of the medium? Artists and projects will range from examples in Roberts’ book to Tandem-specific editions.
Part art history seminar, part reading group, this course is ideal for artists, educators, students, or anyone curious about the evolving role of print and theory in contemporary visual culture. Prior knowledge of printmaking and print techniques is not required. While we will observe a printmaking demonstration, we will not be making prints in this course.
