GOLF

UNIVERSITY RIDGE

University Ridge Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in 1991 as the official home to the UW-Madison golf teams. The course sits on the terminal moraine, where the Wisconsin Glacier stopped, so the playing terrain includes prairie, marshland, woodland, valleys and hills that overlook the City of Madison. It is a scenic course beyond compare.

This public course offers something for players of every level and has hosted numerous tournaments, ranging from NCAA and Big Ten Championships to the Wisconsin State Open. It was the site of the inaugural PGA Champions Tour’s American Family Insurance Championship in 2016 and continues to host it annually.

CITY COURSES

The City of Madison offers four premiere public golf courses for residents and visitors:

Glenway Golf Course: This 9-hole, par-32 executive course near downtown Madison is a scenic course with character and challenges

Monona Golf Course: This 9-hole, par-36 regulation course in Monona also has an excellent driving range with all-natural grass tees

Odana Hills: This 18-hole, par-72 regulation course on Madison’s west side is one of the most popular in the state and hosts annual city tournaments

Yahara Hills: This 36-hole regulation course located east of I-90 is Madison's largest facility with two, 18-hole championship courses, large bunkered greens and well-placed water features

PRACTICE & RESORT COURSES

In addition to city and university courses, you can practice and perfect your game throughout the Greater Madison area:

House on the Rock Resort: Features 27 holes of championship golf situated among rolling terrain and tremendous greenery

Devil’s Head Resort: Features two championship 18-hole courses that are consistently included in the Top 25 Wisconsin Golf Courses ratings

DISC GOLF

CITY COURSES

City of Madison Parks disc golf courses are open to the public, though a permit is required ($5 daily and $40 annually) for players who are 16 and older. Elver Park is a 250-acre park on the west side and is Madison’s largest disc golf course. Hiestand Park is open year-round (pending spring thaw conditions), and is located adjacent to Hiestand Woods Conservancy Park on the east side.

OTHER PLACES TO PLAY

Greater Madison also offers disc golf at two Dane County Parks locations: Token Creek County Park (27 holes) and Lake Farm County Park (18 holes). Daily or annual permits are also required to play.

Madison’s renowned Maple Bluff neighborhood also features a 6-disc golf course at Johnson Park. This is a great place to stop by for beginner play and practice.

To learn more about Madison’s disc golf scene, connect with the Mad City Disc Golf club, which formed to install Madison’s first disc golf course at Elver Park and continues to promote play throughout the area.

FOOTGOLF

FootGolf is an international sport that's catching on in Greater Madison. This game is played just like golf, but combines elements of golf and soccer. Players kick a soccer ball down the fairway of a course containing a 22" hole, with the ultimate goal of scoring a soccer hole-in-one! Vitense Golfland has the first certified FootGolf course and the only one in the Madison area that's lit for evening play. Try it! If you like the game, there are also leagues and tournaments available.
